Hello big boy!

Whoooaa it is an architectural BEAST. Dubai is officially the most hung city in the world. All the evidence is right here.
Tree hugging

Cool things happen in New Zealand. This tree house is a big venture by Yellow (as in yellow pages). As well as being the subject of beautiful photography and inspiring dreamy house plans, the tree house was a restaurant as well. Unfortunately I’m a little late to the party; the restaurant is closed and the venue is now available for hire.
You should definitely have a look at their site though. It’s kind of focussed on the Restaurant and some kind if TV show based on the place, but the pictures are magnificent. This article about the architecture is great too.
fo’ life!
Design for Life Episode 1 from Robert Meredith on Vimeo.
Hey–ey–ey! Everyone seems to be watching television series these days. I’m not really getting into it at all, maybe an old Seinfeld here and there. (secretly I watced the entire six feet under during second year of design school in two weeks). Just recently I watched this entire series in one day; Design for Life. the show follows Phillipe Starck as he hands a bunch of young designers some assignments and slowly sends them home.
Apparently Saatchi Rebranded the ANZ Earlier This Year…

Nobody told me.
I bank with the ANZ. I really don’t give a toss about it, however – I simply changed from the Commonwealth Bank when they closed shop on the local high street. I was impressed when they told me I could have a black card, but since then it’s been a pretty dull fiscal journey. Does anybody feel warmth towards their particular bank these days? Is it actually possible to like a bank? One almost wonders why they bother with branding at all. And as for going to the trouble of rebranding…
Whatever. Let’s attempt to consider the protracted ANZ rebrand objectively. Here goes: Like the lettering; indifferent towards the graphic. (Apparently it’s a lotus flower. I saw a dude with an afro and penguin flippers, applauding).
Read a little more here. And if you know anything more about the rebrand — when we might actually see it roll out, for instance — please let us know.
Frost
Vince Frost probably made his last visit to Perth for SemiPermanent this year. Here’s a little chat with him, here’s his studio’s folio, and here’s his blog. Soo much great work.
Wall Street = tummy ache

This is the work of Chen Wenling. This massive bull is Wall Street and that guy pressed again the wall by the flatulent bull is Bernard Mattock. Other than this spectacular sculpture there is very little info on the artist. (not even a wiki, which pretty much means Chen never existed, right?)
Zaha Hadid

I really think this structure could tip a great performance into a mind blowing experience. I can’t say I’m fond of all of the work by Zaha Hadid, but this swirl of a space is amazing. Again, I’m not sure how I feel about their website here, but after reading the attached writings, the method to the madness seems to make sense.
n°

DAMn°22 is hot. It’s a magazine from Belgium, It’s an International (re)view on contemporary culture, it seems to be concerning itself with a lot of important things that are happening in and between design, architecture and art. Their site is good, lots of info, lots of links, lots of stuff you should know about. Here you go, have a peak. Ohh and it’s designed beautifully, but don’t let that get in the way of the mind blowing content.
Lucy McRae & Mandy Smith
Chlorophyll Skin from Lucy McRae on Vimeo.
It’s all about videos at the moment here. Gee whiz.
We’ve posted about Lucy McRae at August before, here. Here’s some more of her (and Mandy Smith’s) wild shape-shifting body art. Is it more creepy than beautiful? Discuss.
I found this on We Love You So, the cool blog that is tracking the production of Spike Jonze/Dave Eggers’s Where The Wild Things Are. You should have a look at that too.
Levine/Leavitt
Levine/Leavitt are an artists management agency. They’ve pretty much got all the biggest names you’ve heard of in the commercial world of design, photography, illustration & direction. They must be like a gang or something, check out their site, it’ll blow you away!
